Admission and Discharge
We understand that hospital visits are rarely planned. When you need medical attention, you have more important things to worry about than policies and procedures. That's why we're here to help you through the admissions and discharge process – from the time you arrive, and even after you leave.
At St. Luke’s Hospital, we provide you with expert care, a comfortable environment and ready access to information so that you can focus on one thing: Getting better.
Our staff will check in with you often to see if we can do anything to improve your stay, and we will take all appropriate steps to ensure your safety and confidentiality. We also care about your health after your visit. When you're ready to return home, our hospital staff can work with you to develop a plan for any further care that you may need on your road to recovery.

Maps and Directions

We recognize that visits from family members and friends are important to patients. A limited number of visits at certain times can contribute to the patient's recovery. We also understand that it is natural for individuals to be concerned about loved ones who have been hospitalized.
Remember, patients may feel anxious. For some, being in the hospital is a new experience. For others, although they have been hospitalized before, their illness may pose unfamiliar problems. Please keep in mind that total health involves physical, mental and spiritual needs. Be a good visitor, and help us maintain a safe and comfortable environment for both our patients and guests.
- Visitors may be asked to leave if they are disturbing patients.
- Do not leave children unattended.
- Speak softly, and avoid unnecessary noise.
- Respect the patient. Always knock first on the door, even if it's open. Announce yourself. If there is a roommate, be considerate and do not make loud noises.
- Chairs are provided for the comfort of visitors. Please do not sit on the patient's bed.
- Keep visits brief so others may visit. Brief visits are not as tiring to patients.
- Discourage friends and family from visiting if they have colds or other infectious diseases. If you're not sure, talk with a nurse before visiting.
- Visitors may be asked to leave the room when the patient receives treatment from a doctor or nurse.
- Most patients are on special diets while in the hospital. Outside food is not always good for them. They should only eat food prepared for them by the hospital. Always check with the nurse or the registered dietitian before bringing special foods from home.
- Children 12 and older are considered adults for visiting purposes.
All ProMedica campuses, including St. Luke’s Hospital, are tobacco-free, indoors and outdoors. This includes our lawns, walkways, sidewalks, parking lots (including inside vehicles) and any other grounds that ProMedica maintains. As a courtesy, please also be considerate of our neighbors and avoid littering and loitering on properties that surround our campus.
We understand that quitting tobacco can be hard. If you choose to quit and need assistance, please contact The Toledo Hospital Tobacco Treatment Center by calling 419-291-8033 or contact St. Luke’s Hospital by calling 419-893-QUIT.
We realize that one of the first things most people think about when they are admitted to the hospital is going home. Getting you well enough to go home is our goal, too. When it’s time to go, please remember to make sure you have all of your personal belongings, and to tell your nurse if you need help arranging transportation.
Our team is with you through every step of the healing process. To ensure that you receive seamless care even after your discharge from the hospital, our social worker/discharge planner may work with your nurse and doctor to arrange continuing care services such as home health care, skilled nursing, or hospice care. To speak with a discharge planner, please call 419-897-8306.
Paying Your Bill
To comply with state law, St. Luke’s Hospital provides a price list that contains our charges for room and board, emergency department, operating room, delivery, physical therapy and other procedures. The hospital's charges are the same for all patients, but a patient's responsibility may vary, depending on payment plans negotiated with individual health insurers. Uninsured or underinsured patients should consult with our admitting and billing staff to determine whether they qualify for discounts. These prices are correct as of January 2011.
